Local Council Members participate in Wreaths Across America Ceremony at National Cemetery

Greater Chattanooga Council NLUS board member and National Director, John Lynch accepted invitation by Sons of Revolution to lay remembrance wreath in memory of those who served and are serving in the United States Navy.

The ceremony Saturday, December 13th at National Cemetery in Chattanooga was one at over 350 US locations that participated in Wreaths Across America, an annual ceremony that honors U. S. veterans as described by Laura Galbraaith of Chattanooga TIMESFREEPRESS.

She described that "highlight of ceremony came when wreaths were placed to honor those in each branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, including the 93,852 U.S. servicemen whose last known status was either prisoners of war or missing in action." Wreaths also were laid in remebrance of U.S. Army, United States Marine Corps, United States Air Force, United States Coast Guard and United States Merchant Marines.

Earlier, with the financial help of sponsors, volunteers -- including our Council's Noah Long -- laid 1,022 laid wreaths on headstones in the cemetery. Number had increased from about 100 last year and goal is for next year's presentations cover over 40,000 graves in Chattanooga National Cemetery. Organizers hope that they will be able to accomplish this goal in coming years.

Individuals and businesses can show their support by purchasing wreaths at the Wreaths Across America Web site:
